How are judicial activism and restraint confused with liberalism and conservatism?
Q. Also, what are some ways that conservatives could use judicial activism and that liberals could exercise judicial restraint?

A. Judicial activism generally is considered to occur when a court rules in a manner that reflects contemporary society and values. Some would say that flexibility was the founding fathers' goal and is an example of the briliance with which the Constitution was worded. It is less political and more interpretive than many would suggest. In contrast, there are constitutional originalists who believe the Constitution should be interpreted according to their belief in what the founders intended when they drafted the Constitution. Naturally, the next question is who's intent and how do we know what their intent really was on any particular issue? Imagine the changes in the past 200+ years that the founders could not have anticipated. … [cont.]

How would I get involved with Transgender Rights Activism?
Q. I'm aiming to become a Gender Therapist, and am myself Transgender; I'm also very interested in world politics (i'm soon joining a political party). I also wish to be involved with Transgender Rights Activism, i'm in the UK. Any tips on how to get involved?
Asked by Akito_Spiritus - Sun Jan 11 07:37:12 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would start by researching the particular topic, until you know all of the different aspects inside and out. also join various organizations such as IFGE personally, I'm working on my law degree, with a focus on civil and constitutional law. I feel that by simply presenting yourself in the best possible light in your daily life is one of the best ways to promote transgender rights. also by being involved with your community by trying to educate people about transgender issues.

Atheist Activism: How can Godless Atheists, Agnostics be more active?
Q. A common question atheists have is how they can make a difference in society. Atheists are not just a minority, but often a despised minority - more people feel comfortable expressing bigotry, hatred, and discrimination towards atheists than any other group. It's safe to say things about atheists that people would never say about others. How can atheists change this? What sorts of activism can they engage in? Is there a place for atheist activists in the world?

A. I don't think there always is; you have many examples of moral and ethical politicians who have been brought down by scandals and indecent actions. Eliot Spitzer is the perfect example; powerful, very motivated and bulldog-ish on crime, yet fell because he had himself morally violated his wife's trust and illegally hired a prostitute. You have many people who have incredibly stories on their activism; Malcolm X was and continues to be one of my favorite figures in history, yet for half his life he hustled, gambled, and ran around with a crowd many would consider unpleasant. What is the best form of gay rights activism?
Q. There have been so many ways to fight for LGBT rights. The equality march on Washington, for one. Colleges have been holding kiss-ins in which gay couples gather and celebrate a public kiss with their significant other. Movies like Milk and Prayers for Bobby and Brokeback Mountain have furthered LGBT causes. And of course, there are flyers, parades, gay days at amusement parks, and many other events that display and support the gay community. Which one is the best and most effective do you think?

A. All of these things together have furthered the LGBT cause. Many people were offended when Barney Frank told those who gathered in DC for the national equality march that they would only be putting "pressure on the grass" but he was partially true. We need to use our system of government to also further our cause. Currently, there is a bill to overturn the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which would be a milestone in gay rights. It needs only 36 more co-sponsors for it to be eligible for a vote in the House. Many Representatives like Nancy Pelosi would certainly co-sponsor the bill if only they had the pressure from our community to do so. Find out if your representative has co-sponsored the bill, if not, meet with them and request… [cont.]

A. Honestly not. Anyone can join a group, but a click isn't as tangible as either an armed revolution, or large peaceful demonstration. Anyone can complain or ask for about things, but creating change takes more than that, it takes action. Examples of action that achieved changes can go from the American Revolution, other nations wars of independence, Poland's solidarity movement, Gandhi in India, among many other things.

A. k look, its simple, ppl r getting lazier and lazier, theyr getting entertained with bad music written by little rich kids or adults that just do music for fame and money. So lyrics, yup theyr pretty much dead, in a men/boys case is or: I LOVE U!! ur the reason of my liiffeee! or IM RICH, i have a cool car, i get chicks... in a woman/girl's case is men are pigs! theyr so stupid, he cheated me!!! or IM SEXY, im a slut. ok, now rhythm, nobody, NOBODY of those little pop celebrities rlly care for the music, try a long time, play music just to play, just to have fun. NO, what they do is, they use a frequency the human ear is used to listen to, so all the little kids or teenagers or whatever LOVE them cuz they, (public who enjoys that) don't… [cont.]

Q. I find that youth culture is so banal these days. And I hate to say it, but I really think that American youth (and youth everywhere) are pandered to by corporate America. So much of the music is meaningless. Whatever happened to protest songs or stuff like that?
